We currently have a programme called Words can change Worlds which we are
running with under-resourced schools and which desperately requires the input
of other schools, organisations, corporates and government to help change the
circumstances of those in need.
Here at Wordweavers, we work with words every day and, although commonplace,
words are the building-blocks of language on which our society, and the world as we
know it, is based.
Words can build bridges, creating peace and harmony or, if used negatively, can bring
a person to the edge of despair.
Words can create opportunities. The inability to use words appropriately can affect a
person’s potential in the worlds of study, work and life.
We want to make learners more aware of the importance of language and to broaden
their understanding of how the world works.
Since many learners struggle with the English Literature paper and do not have
sufficient revision materials to prepare for their assessments, while in multiple
schools, teachers are unable to provide learners with adequate information to
assist them, we offer:
•
More privileged schools an Outreach Opportunity, whereby Grade 12
learners can donate one or two study guides (at greatly discounted rates) to
Grade 12 learners in a particular class in a selected school in a mentorship
program to support and assist fellow-learners.
•
Corporates or organisations the opportunity to fund or sponsor a workshop
for learners at a selected school (we have lists of schools or sponsors may
select their own) with the add-on of a study-guide for each Grade 12 learner
or one per pair, again, at a reduced rate.
•
National or local departments of Education to arrange workshops and
teacher-training using our products.
We use all these events as opportunities to collect data and interface with
teachers and learners setting up support systems which are sustainable and
which empower the schools to change their worlds.
