Hi, I’m Govin Reddy. I specialise in writing study guides for English First Additional Language learners (also referred to as ESL learners) and have co-authored a series of matric study guides and workbooks with my business partner, Cathy Eberle, a remarkably talented lady. Cathy and I have focussed on offering literature support for primary and high school students and conducting workshops for teachers of English. Of course, we can offer support on any aspect of English or language teaching or upskilling. I hold a Master’s degree in Applied Linguistics. I started my work life as a teacher, a job which I enjoyed so much that I stayed in it for over 25 years. Thereafter, I joined an NGO which specialised in working with teachers of English who were non-mother tongue speakers of English. I was the project manager at the organisation as well as a materials developer. During my free time, I started to prepare training material for teachers. This went very well (my 20+ years of teaching helped considerably) and set me off on my current venture, preparing study guides on prescribed literature texts, especially for matric students. Hi, I’m Cathy Eberle. I have a Master’s degree in English literature and have used the English language in a number of ways throughout my career. I have been a translator, a speech writer, a sub-editor, a journalist, an editor and a lecturer of Journalism and lecturer and tutor in English at several institutions, both public and private, across a range of types of English language courses at university and tertiary level. Part of my core business remains editing and proof-reading (for more about this see the link www.editatwordweavers.co.za) however I have been fortunate enough to also be a materials developer and this was how I came to meet my business partner, Govin Reddy, a man whose experience in teaching and in assisting teachers and learners to grapple successfully with language is invaluable. Together, we constitute Wordweavers Material Development and Consultants, experts in working with words. We live and work in a world of words and text. Signs warn us, direct us and inform us. We interpret language in a multitude of ways. Sometimes understanding is rendered complex by slight variations in the style, age and culture of text which affect the way meaning is transmitted. Just as one would summon an expert to solve an electrical, IT, construction or plumbing problem, we are experts in helping others navigate the deep, and often turbulent waters of language. We offer guidance through the following: Quality study guides and workbooks based on the texts prescribed for English Literature study for Grade 12 in both First Additional Language (FAL) and Home Language. Training manuals for organisations and businesses and development of learning materials on request, with many new guides in the pipeline. See The Next Page. We offer support to teachers and learners in the form of training workshops – see Your Work for more. We run mentorship and community education assistance projects – go to Giving Back to learn how you can become involved. We listen to your needs and try to help you, see Your Story.
